December 2020 Newsletter
A Message from Our President
Tis the Season
Can you believe it’s already December 2020? The end of a year that has arguably been the most head scratching, surprising and challenging. Thankfully the holiday season is here – a time of hope, cheer, reflection and to be festive!
As my time as President comes to a close, I am filled with emotions of pride, gratitude and reflection. I love this chapter! I am thankful for our chapter and committee members, sponsors, community partners and the best board of directors ever!! My time as chapter leader has been fun and rewarding, surrounded by the right people with a common goal, dedication and determination to affect change. As a long time HR professional and volunteer leader of this esteemed chapter, I have had the privilege to support others in the profession I love and it doesn’t get much better than that. The saying goes “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life”. Giving back, shaping vision and initiatives, and serving others provides a sense of fulfillment that adds value to life.
HoCoHRS has always added value for its members and the HR and business community, and more this year than before despite the pandemic. Whether it is the monthly educational programming pre-approved with HRCI and SHRM certification credits, networking, career readiness workshops for college and high school students, and professionals in search of their next position, certification preparation, scholarships and educational reimbursement for certifications, monthly communications and other resources, or supporting our local charities with recognition and donations, initiatives are continuously being planned and implemented all the time.
Looking back on this year, a few positive moments come to mind - babies were born, people discovered a newfound sense of creativity and flexibility, families connected in new ways, many businesses flourished, people became resourceful and rekindled dormant personal and professional connections. I am looking forward to 2021 so that we can welcome a new day, season, and year with open-mindedness and optimism. For some of us, we should stop trying to make sense of 2020 (it never will) and put that energy towards 2021, finding our personal “why” and creating a sense of purpose for the new year. Out of chaos and challenge, purpose emerges with an energized feeling of new beginning.
As a long-standing professional society and affiliate of SHRM, HoCoHRS is approaching 20 years in 2021. All the efforts and initiatives laid over each of those preceding 20 years has prepared the chapter to move into the next era. It is that foundation, knowledge and enthusiasm that sets us up for more successful years to come. I look forward to seeing you all in 2021, virtually or in person, as we continue to find purpose and our mission of “advancing the profession and serving the professional”.
